How to Lose Your Credibility in 10 Days (writing with AI)

How to lose your credibility in 10 days blog image

Think you’ve found the ultimate shortcut? Like you’ve finally cracked it?

Sorry to burst your robo-bubble, but AI won’t turn you into a genuinely skilled writer overnight. In fact, if you trust it blindly, the opposite is true: your credibility (and authenticity) will slip away before your very eyes.

Here’s how it could all unravel for you… in just 10 days!

Day 1: Love at first prompt

You open ChatGPT for the first time.

You type in a rough, half-baked email. It comes back with something uber polished and suspiciously good.

You stare back at the screen in disbelief.

Where the hell have you been all my life?

This is it. No more agonising over every word you type. No more typos. No more rewriting paragraphs 14 times

You can’t help but wonder: Have I found the one?.

Day 2: The honeymoon

You start using AI to write more and more things.

Emails? Done.
Proposals? Easy.
LinkedIn posts? You’re basically a thought leader now.

And it starts to feel personal. It just gets you. It finishes your sentences and never tires of your questions. And as for the compliments? Your ego is having a lovely time:

‘Great thinking’. ‘Strong idea’. ‘Your instinct is really smart’.

All this flattery is working a treat. In fact, it’s because you’ve fallen in love. Why even try to resist it?

Day 3: Total trust

You stop even editing. You don’t see the point. It already sounds better than what you could write anyway.

So you ‘PROMPT-COPY-PASTE-SEND’ on repeat. On mass.

You don’t question it. You don’t even really read it properly.

Because you’ve decided the AI knows best. And you trust it. Completely.

Day 4: The rose-coloured glasses start to slip

Something shifts.

Your writing is still more polished – but sounds less like you. You try to tell yourself that’s a good thing. More ‘professional’. That’s the goal, right?

But it‘s also sounding weirdly… generic.

You shrug it all off.

Meanwhile, your actual voice has been pushed to the corner wondering when it stopped getting a say.

Day 5: You’re not special anymore

There’s no doubt about it. Your emails sound like they were written by the same person who writes everyone else’s.

And you start seeing more and more of your own special phrases (that you were pretty chuffed with) out in the wild:

Here’s the hard truth…
It’s not just a challenge, it’s an opportunity…
Quietly shaping meaningful outcomes that actually land…

Wait… did I write that? Eeek. Hard to tell now.

You’ve become indistinguishable from everyone else at work. (And on LinkedIn.)

Congratulations. You’re no longer you.

Day 6: It starts getting awkward

Someone responds to something you ‘wrote’.

‘Hey, quick one… what did you mean by this section?’

You go back and read it. You pause. Read it again.

You have absolutely no idea what you meant. Because you didn’t write it. But you did approve it.

Big difference.

And just like that, this steamy love affair is starting to lose its shine.

Day 7: Betrayal (and denial)

AI gives you a stat. Or an example. Or a ‘fact’ that sounds legit.

You use it. You don’t check it because… who has the time?

Turns out it’s wrong. Not slightly off. Not open to interpretation. Just wrong.

Now you look like a fool.

So naturally, you blame AI. But deep down, you know you should have known better. You’re just not ready to admit it yet.

Day 8: Holding on

The blind trust you once had may be fading, but you’re not ready to walk away just yet.

Then you use AI to help with something a bit sensitive. A tricky piece of feedback. A client email where the tone needs to be on point.

It gives you something technically correct… but emotionally tone deaf.

You can feel it. But you send it anyway.

Now you sound cold. Or awkward.

And your email doesn’t go down well. If only you had listened to your gut…

Day 9: Everyone else sees it now

People don’t call you out directly. They just start trusting you less – because your writing is now consistently over-polished and under-thought.

You can almost see the eye rolls and hear the quiet chuckles on the other side of the screen.

Because everyone knows it’s not really you anymore.

The secret’s out. Your fling with AI has been exposed.

Day 10: It’s over – and it’s all on you

The relationship has broken down. And you now realise you were the problem all along.

Because you thought you could shortcut the hard part. Skip the thinking. Dismiss the skill. You can’t.

So now you’re stuck in a weird spot. You don’t trust AI. But you don’t trust yourself either.

You realise the only way back is the bit you tried to avoid: learning the craft of clear, concise business writing.

Only then can you use AI like it’s meant to be used. And only then can you start earning your credibility back.
