The 4 skill areas grads need to succeed

Graduate Communication Essentials is a cohesive program of four courses delivered in your cohort’s first year. Each course targets a core communication skill graduates need to contribute effectively – based on the real capability gaps we see in workplaces every day.

COURSE 1: Business Writing Essentials

Graduates arrive fluent in long-form, academic writing. But in the workplace? That approach clogs inboxes, buries the point – and forces managers to spend hours each week rewriting their team’s work.

This course arms your graduates with the foundations of clear, concise and purposeful business writing. It’s a capability we’ve been helping teams develop since 2008.

Outcomes: Sharper insights. Faster decisions. Clear, concise drafts – right the first time.

COURSE 2: Presenting with Confidence

Your graduates will soon be expected to speak up in stakeholder meetings, client pitches and even board-level presentations. These moments shape credibility fast.

This course focuses on real workplace presentations. Graduates learn how to prepare, structure and present – with strategy, skill and confidence.

Outcomes: Graduates who can be trusted to deliver in high-stakes moments sooner.

COURSE 3: Leading Effective Meetings

Graduates may not be chairing meetings on day one. But they’re sitting in them from week one. And that’s where bad habits form. Unclear purpose. Wandering discussions. No decisions. No actions.

This course shares how meetings should work, how decisions are made and how to contribute with intent. Graduates become active, effective participants now – and capable meeting leaders when the time comes.

Outcomes: Tighter meetings. Clearer decisions. Less time wasted. More constructive discussions.

COURSE 4: Presentations & Pitch Decks

Building PowerPoint decks is one of the most common tasks graduates are given – yet one of the least taught. Without clear guidance, slides quickly turn into information dumps that lack structure, story and impact.

This course teaches graduates how to design decks with purpose. They learn how to shape a clear story and use slides to persuade, clarify and drive decisions. The result? Presentations that move work forward.

Outcomes: Cleaner, sharper decks. Faster approvals. Graduates who can produce leader-ready presentations with confidence.

Quick-fire FAQs

Can I change the courses and their durations?

Yes. Please browse our full suite of team courses to swap in alternative areas of interest. That said, we’ve chosen these four areas to solve the most common communication challenges we see in early-career professionals.

Our proven program structure consists of four full-day workshops over the course of the year. However, if this duration is not right for your organisation, we can condense each course to half-day sessions – or even two-hour masterclasses.

Rest assured, we will work closely with your team to design a program that aligns with your business needs and constraints.

How will the graduate skills training be delivered?

We’ve built Graduate Communication Essentials as four face-to-face full-day workshops.

However, we understand that your graduate cohort may be geographically dispersed – and that gathering them in one room may not be feasible.

That’s why we also offer most of the courses online if needed.

Whichever way you go though, the graduate program will be:

  • Tailored: Our expert facilitators will tailor the courses to your training objectives and specific communication needs.
  • Inspiring: Your grads will walk away with a new perspective, more confidence – and loads of critical new skills!
  • Interactive & engaging: A great morale booster, your people will enjoy the practical activities, interaction… and the laughs!
Will I get the same facilitator for each course?

Each course is facilitated by a different subject matter expert – so your graduates get depth, expertise and practical guidance in each skill area.

The overarching program will be led by either Vikki or Veronica, both business leaders and professional writers who use the communication tips and techniques they teach every single day.

What’s the maximum number of graduates per workshop?

We’ve designed the program for 15-20 graduates per workshop to promote opportunities for interaction and feedback.

Have more graduates to train? Please ask about our special rate for multiple workshops.

What will our new graduates learn?

Please contact us for full program outlines for each course. But let us stress: we will tailor each workshop to your needs and learning goals. So please take the program outlines as guides only.

What do we get for our investment?
  • Fully customised course material using real examples and samples from your organisation for your graduates to critique and improve
  • A 40-page workbook for each course for each participant (also valuable references long after the workshops are over)
  • 8 handy checklists and cheat-sheets for your team to keep by their side whenever they communicate at work
What’s the investment?

We’ll design the best program for your graduates based on participant numbers, locations and capability priorities. But rest assured: all workshop tailoring is included at no added cost.

Please contact us for a customised quote for your workplace.

Can I enrol non-graduates in the program?

Yes. We can tailor the program for early-career professionals, emerging leaders and senior executives. Please contact us to customise the program to your needs.
